Dear Parents,

This week, we have the opportunity to explore the teachings of Samuel Anointed David” (1 Samuel 16).

God told Samuel to stop mourning Saul and go to Bethlehem to anoint a new king from Jesse’s sons. Samuel expected the oldest and strongest son to be chosen, but God reminded him that people look at the outside, while God looks at the heart. Jesse’s youngest son, David, was tending sheep, but when he arrived, God told Samuel to anoint him. From that day, the Spirit of the Lord was with David. This teaches us that God values our hearts more than our appearance and that He chooses people for His purpose.

This message will inspire your child to grow in the love and light of Jesus. Reinforce the lesson at home by discussing the following points with your child:

  • God Sees the Heart: People may judge by looks, but God looks at our hearts. How can we have a heart that pleases God?
  • God Uses Unexpected People: David was the youngest and a shepherd. How does God use ordinary people for big things?
  • Jesus Was Chosen to Save Us: David was chosen to be king, and Jesus was chosen to be our Savior. How does Jesus show us God’s love?

You might consider praying with your child, thanking God for knowing our hearts and asking Him to help you love and follow Jesus each day.

Grace and blessings in Christ.
