Dear Parents,
This week, we have the opportunity to explore the teachings of “The Israelites Wanted a King” (1 Samuel 7-10).
As Samuel grew older, the people of Israel asked for a king to rule over them like the other nations. Though God had been their perfect King, they rejected Him. God told Samuel to warn the people about the hardships a human king would bring, but they insisted. God chose Saul, a tall and impressive young man, to be their first king. This story reminds us that when we reject God’s rule, we choose our way over His. But Jesus, our perfect King, came to save us and bring us back to God.
This message will inspire your child to grow in the love and light of Jesus. Reinforce the lesson at home by discussing the following points with your child:
- God Is Our True King: The Israelites wanted a human king instead of trusting God. How can we let God lead our lives every day?
- Our Choices Have Consequences: God warned the people, but they still chose a king. Why is it important to listen to God’s voice?
- Jesus Is the Perfect King: Unlike Saul, Jesus never fails. How does Jesus show us what a true King should be like?
You might consider praying with your child, thanking Jesus for being the perfect King and asking for help to follow Him with trust and love.
Grace and blessings in Christ.
