Dear Parents,

This week, we have the opportunity to explore the teachings of The Ark Was Captured(1 Samuel 4-6).

The Israelites wrongly treated the ark of the covenant like a good luck charm in battle, and they were defeated by the Philistines, who captured the ark. God showed His power by causing the Philistines’ idol, Dagon, to fall before the ark and by punishing the Philistines until they returned the ark to Israel. This story reminds us that God is holy and powerful. It also points us to Jesus, who took our punishment so we could be forgiven and belong to God forever.

This message will inspire your child to grow in the love and light of Jesus. Reinforce the lesson at home by discussing the following points with your child:

  • God Is Holy and Powerful: God showed His power over the Philistines’ false god. How can we show respect and worship to the one true God?
  • We Cannot Use God for Our Own Plans: The Israelites treated the ark like a magic object. How should we trust God instead of trying to control Him?
  • Jesus Took Our Punishment: Just like God judged sin, Jesus took our punishment on the cross. How does trusting in Jesus bring us forgiveness?

You might consider praying with your child, thanking God for His holiness and asking Him to help you trust in Jesus for forgiveness and new life.

Grace and blessings in Christ.
