God showed His power by causing the Philistines\u2019 idol, Dagon, to fall before the ark and by punishing the Philistines until they returned the ark to Israel. This story reminds us that God is holy and powerful. It also points us to Jesus, who took our punishment so we could be forgiven and belong to God forever.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This message will inspire your child to grow in the love and light of Jesus. Reinforce the lesson at home by discussing the following points with your child:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>God Is Holy and Powerful<\/strong>: God showed His power over the Philistines\u2019 false god. How can we show respect and worship to the one true God?<\/li>\n<li><strong>We Cannot Use God for Our Own Plans<\/strong>: The Israelites treated the ark like a magic object. How should we trust God instead of trying to control Him?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jesus Took Our Punishment<\/strong>: Just like God judged sin, Jesus took our punishment on the cross.
